Safety Health Environment and Social Software

Pivot provides integrated software solutions to the mining industry in South Africa. Pivot is not a business that broadcasts its achievements or add logo’s of its clients to its sites. Founded in 1999, and operating from premises in Kempton Park, it has quietly become a strategic partner to clients such as Harmony, Glencore, Sibanye and Exxaro, amongst others

Pivot’s sustainability software solutions make best practice management easier for mine’s. This increases productivity and adds value throughout the mining value chain.

SLP4Good and Pivot-Systems have now joined forces. Combining SLP4Good’s deep Mining Charter expertise with Pivot’s systems will give clients a rich solution for Mining Charter compliance management.

The strategy is to provide competence that solves social license to operate challenges for a mine. In the information systems industry, vendors sell platforms and solutions without content, but given the complexity of the social license to operate environment, we went further: we converged content with the Compliance software and this ensures a mine can manage its compliance immediately. The benefits for a mine ought to be clear: the application is used immediately, standard regulations are provided for a mine to do a gap analysis, and implementation costs are reduced.

In the table below it is shown how Pivot uses a logical approach to allow a mine to systemise its community management process.

1. Database stakeholder and community profile2. List impacts, needs and opportunities
3. Build SED projects into community management plan4. Manage risks and opportunity action plans throughout mine
5. Link results to SLP and Mining Charter Scorecard6. Extract information into standard reports[wp-svg-icons icon=”arrow-right-3″ wrap=”span”]

The information managed in Pivot’s community development platform from above is then linked to the Mining Charter Compliance Manager.

Note our Mining Charter Compliance Manager is the only application that is pre-loaded with intellectual content -all the regulations have been converted into data points and is ready for management.

In simple language the user receives a spreadsheet pre-loaded with intelligence.

In the tab-figure below, the various worksteps as they occur on the Mining Charter Compliance application is explained. A mine would move from scoring itself using SLP4Good’s intellectual capital to managing and reporting on its score. The scoring includes an assessment of compliance with the B-BBEE Scorecard, reporting and policy adherence.

Scoring

Scorecard: Using SLP4Good’s content, score yourself using our 66 datapoints. These data points are standard in the MC Compliance Manager application.

Reports: Are you ready to submit the new 22 Mining Charter reports?

Policies: Do you comply with all the new policies?

Verification

Use the verification and audit section to ensure that scoring is correct. Pivot’s software necessitates mine management to verify the information captured.

Gap analysis

Analyse the gaps and decide a course of action. The mine will receive a gap scoresheet that shows its actual performance, the mine’s commitment for a particular year, and the B-BBEE compliance targets and weightings. The mine would easily be able to determine where it is lagging, or leading.

Action Management

Using the Action Manager application, the mine can allocate actions throughout the organisation. Pivot’s action manager is a world-class module that allows a mine to allocate tasks, send emails, set follow up dates and create alerts. All tasks follow the set process of plan, do, check and act.
